HVAC SERVICES | NORTHERN COLORADO

Timnath is Poudre Valley REA territory, and a member cooperative rebate runs on its own paperwork and its own

HVAC SERVICES IN TIMNATH NORTHERN COLORADO

Timnath has grown faster than almost anywhere in Northern Colorado, which means a large share of its housing stock is newer construction with original equipment now reaching replacement age. Homegrown Heating and Air Conditioning provides HVAC services in Timnath for repair, replacement and maintenance on furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork and controls. We measure the system, write down what we find, and price the work before we start.

Every Service We Cover in Timnath

We work on the whole system, not one appliance:

  • AC repair and AC installation
  • Furnace repair, and furnace installation and replacement
  • Heating maintenance and tune-ups
  • Heat pump installation and repair
  • Indoor air quality and filtration upgrades
  • Whole-home humidifiers
  • Ductwork repair and sealing
  • Smart thermostat installation
  • Ductless mini-splits
  • Emergency HVAC repair, same-day, seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Three of those carry most of the Timnath volume, and each has its own page: heat pump installation and repair, furnace installation and replacement, and smart thermostat installation.

How a Member Cooperative Pays for a Heat Pump

Timnath is in Poudre Valley REA territory, and a member cooperative’s rebate works differently from an investor-owned utility’s program. There is no per-ton schedule and no bonus tier tied to what fuel you buy from the same company. PVREA publishes flat amounts in its heating and cooling rebates program:

  • $500 for an air-source heat pump of 1.5 tons or under.
  • $1,500 for an air-source heat pump above 1.5 tons.
  • A cap at 50 percent of the equipment cost, whichever is lower.
  • A minimum rating of 7.8 HSPF2.
  • A $500 dual-fuel bonus when the heat pump is paired with gas or propane as the main heat source.
  • An application filed within 90 days of purchase.

The paperwork is where these get lost. PVREA asks for a commissioning form and an AHRI certificate showing the HSPF2 rating of the system as installed.

Both are install-day documents. An AHRI certificate covers a matched combination of outdoor unit, indoor coil and air handler, not a single model number, so the exact combination has to be recorded on the day it goes in. The commissioning form asks what was actually measured at startup, including refrigerant charge, airflow and the changeover setting on a dual-fuel system. Those numbers cannot be reconstructed from memory three months later.

It also means the dual-fuel bonus is an install decision, not a form decision. Pairing a heat pump with an existing or new gas furnace has to be designed and set up that way, with the changeover point chosen deliberately.

We complete the commissioning form at startup, pull the AHRI certificate for the exact combination we installed, and hand the packet over with the invoice so the 90-day clock is never the problem. PVREA rebates are electric only, so there is no cooperative rebate on a furnace, an air conditioner, insulation or air sealing.

What Is Confirmed About Timnath Building Codes

Timnath adopted the 2024 International Building Code and the 2024 International Fire Code with local amendments, effective January 1, 2026. Those are the editions the Town names publicly.

We are not publishing a mechanical, residential, fuel gas or energy code edition for Timnath, because the Town’s own sources do not agree with each other. We confirm the current edition with the Timnath Building Department before we submit a permit. Any contractor quoting Timnath work should be doing the same rather than assuming the neighboring town’s cycle applies.

What is settled and useful:

  • The Town’s building permit application carries explicit permit types for furnace, air conditioner and water heater. Heat pumps, mini-splits, ductwork alterations and humidifiers are not named, so they fall under the general rule that mechanical work requires a permit.
  • Timnath requires a Town contractor license, and mechanical is one of the license types issued. We are licensed and insured, Town of Timnath license 26TIM-M-2072.
  • Plan review and inspections are handled by SAFEbuilt. Inspections are scheduled by 4:00 p.m. the prior business day, and every permit has to be finaled.
  • Manual J and Manual D calculations are expected on site with the permit documents.
  • Gas piping is tested at 10 psig for not less than 15 minutes, above the model code baseline, and plastic fuel gas piping is buried at least 18 inches below grade.
  • Carbon monoxide detection is required within 15 feet of each separate sleeping area. Colorado statute separately requires an operational alarm within 15 feet of the entrance to every sleeping room whenever a permit replaces a fuel-fired appliance.

Newer Homes Reaching Their First Replacement Cycle

A ten to fifteen year old house is not a new house from an equipment standpoint. Air conditioners and furnaces installed by a builder are usually the base model that met code and budget on the day, and they age on the same schedule as anything else.

What we find most often in newer Timnath homes:

  • Single-stage equipment sized off a rule of thumb rather than a room-by-room load calculation.
  • Undersized or flex-heavy returns that push static pressure past what the blower was rated for.
  • Long supply runs to bonus rooms and second-floor bedrooms that never balanced.
  • Evaporator coils and condensers still original at year twelve, with one failing before the other.

That last one is the decision point. Replacing only the outdoor unit on a system that old leaves a mismatched pair, and a mismatched pair does not carry the AHRI certificate a rebate application needs.

Sizing Equipment for Timnath

Timnath is in Larimer County, where the published winter design temperature is around 1 degree. That is what a heating load has to hold at, and it is the number that decides whether a heat pump alone will carry the house or whether dual fuel is the better design.

At about 4,900 feet, air is less dense than the sea level air equipment is rated on, so a blower moving the same cubic feet per minute carries less heat. Gas appliances above 2,000 feet also need their input adjusted for altitude, using the manufacturer’s high-altitude listing for that model. We at Homegrown Heating and Air Conditioning check both on every quote rather than sizing from the label on the old unit.

What Responsiveness Looks Like on a Service Call

Getting a call back is half the job. We answer during business hours, seven days a week, tell you when we can be there, and send a technician who will explain what he is doing while he is doing it. One customer told us we had become her new go-to HVAC company after that experience.

Ginger DeReus wrote: “Great company to work with- responsive- professional and super customer service.”

Responsiveness is a scheduling decision rather than a slogan. We hold capacity for no-heat and no-cooling calls instead of booking the day solid, which is what makes a next-day appointment possible when the weather turns. Read more customer reviews from Northern Colorado homeowners.

TIMNATH HVAC QUESTIONS WE GET

Which building codes apply to an HVAC permit in Timnath?

Timnath has confirmed the 2024 International Building Code and the 2024 International Fire Code, effective January 1, 2026. The mechanical, residential, fuel gas and energy code editions are not consistent across the Town’s published sources, so we confirm the current edition with the Building Department before submitting any permit.

Do I need a permit to replace a furnace or air conditioner in Timnath?

Yes. The Town’s permit application lists furnace and air conditioner as their own permit types, along with water heater. Heat pumps, mini-splits and ductwork changes are not named individually but still fall under the general mechanical permit rule.

Does Timnath require a contractor license for HVAC work?

Yes. Timnath issues Town contractor licenses and mechanical is one of the available types, and a permit is only issued to a licensed contractor or to the property owner. Colorado itself has no state HVAC license, which is why local licensing varies this much from town to town.

What rebate can I get on a heat pump in Timnath?

Poudre Valley REA pays $500 for an air-source heat pump of 1.5 tons or under and $1,500 above that, capped at 50 percent of equipment cost, with a $500 bonus for a dual-fuel pairing. The application has to be filed within 90 days of purchase with a commissioning form and an AHRI certificate. These amounts were current in September 2026 and we confirm them at quote time.

My house is only twelve years old. Why is the air conditioner already failing?

Builder-installed equipment is usually a base model chosen to meet code and budget, and twelve to fifteen years is a normal service life for it in this climate. Timnath grew quickly enough that a whole neighborhood can hit that point in the same couple of summers.

Do you handle emergency calls in Timnath?

Yes. We cover same-day emergency HVAC repair seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., across Timnath, Fort Collins, Windsor, Johnstown and the rest of Northern Colorado.
