HVAC SERVICES IN LAPORTE NORTHERN COLORADO
Laporte sits minutes from Fort Collins and answers to a different building department. Homegrown Heating and Air Conditioning provides HVAC services in Laporte at about 5,064 feet, and because the community is unincorporated, every permit, inspection and code question goes to Larimer County rather than the City. That changes what a replacement has to meet and the day it can be inspected.

GOOD TO KNOW
LAPORTE HVAC QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED
Do I pull a permit from Fort Collins or Larimer County for a furnace in Laporte?
Larimer County. Laporte is unincorporated, so the County Building Division issues the permit and sends the inspector. Furnace, boiler, AC, unit heater, gas line and gas appliance, water heater and woodstove work all appear on the County’s Miscellaneous Permit list, and most can be applied for through the online portal.
How fast can a replacement be inspected in Laporte?
It depends on the inspection area. Requests confirmed before 11:59 p.m. can usually be done the next working day, but two County areas are not inspected daily. One runs Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, the other Wednesday and Friday. We check the address against that schedule before we commit to a finish date.
Does Larimer County require a 95 percent efficient furnace?
No. The County requires new or replacement equipment to meet at least the federal minimum efficiency for this location, and the federal minimum for a gas furnace today is 80 percent AFUE. The 95 percent standard applies to units manufactured on or after December 18, 2028, and that date is under an active federal petition. Higher efficiency is often still the right choice here, but it is a decision, not a County requirement.
Can I just put in a bigger furnace since I am at 5,000 feet?
No. The County caps sizing: total sensible cooling capacity may not exceed the calculated sensible load by more than 25 percent on cooling-only work, or more than 40 percent on heating, sized per Manual S on Manual J loads. Altitude is handled by adjusting gas input and verifying airflow, not by buying a larger unit.
What rebates can I get in Laporte?
Poudre Valley REA rebates apply to electric measures: $500 or $1,500 on an air-source heat pump depending on size, a $500 dual-fuel bonus when it is paired with gas or propane heat, and thermostat rebates. Apply within 90 days of purchase. Colorado’s heat pump tax credit comes off the invoice, because we are registered with the Colorado Energy Office and claim it for you. There is no federal tax credit for a 2026 installation.
Do I need a licensed contractor for HVAC work in unincorporated Larimer County?
In most cases yes. The County has required building contractors to be licensed for work in unincorporated areas since September 1, 2009, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning work falls under its Mechanical license class. An owner doing the work on their own home can act as their own contractor with the County’s homeowner certification form. We are licensed and insured throughout Northern Colorado, and we pull the permit as part of the job.
