HVAC SERVICES | NORTHERN COLORADO

Bellvue sits below the High Park Fire burn area, so smoke filtration is part of every system we set up here.

HVAC SERVICES IN BELLVUE NORTHERN COLORADO

Bellvue is an unincorporated Larimer County community in Pleasant Valley at about 5,130 feet, at the mouth of Rist Canyon northwest of Fort Collins. Homegrown Heating and Air Conditioning provides HVAC services in Bellvue for repair, replacement and maintenance on gas and propane furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits. We confirm your electric provider and fuel before we quote, because both vary from one Bellvue address to the next.

Wildfire Smoke and HVAC Services in Bellvue

Smoke is the Bellvue factor that changes how we set up a forced-air system. The 2012 High Park Fire burned about 87,000 acres and 259 homes in the foothills west of Fort Collins, and the burn area sits directly above Bellvue. When fires burn anywhere along the Front Range, smoke settles into the valley.

A central furnace or air handler can either clean that air or pull it into the house. The EPA’s guidance on wildfires and indoor air quality lays out what helps:

  • Close any outdoor-air damper or fresh-air intake during smoke events
  • Use a MERV 13 filter, or the highest rating the system can handle, with a snug fit
  • Set the fan to On instead of Auto so air keeps passing through the filter
  • Change filters more often during and after smoke

The catch is the blower. A denser filter adds resistance, and an older blower or a narrow one-inch filter slot can starve the system of airflow. That shows up as frozen AC coils in summer and an overheating heat exchanger in winter.

Before we recommend a MERV 13 filter, we measure static pressure. If the system cannot handle it, we size a deeper media filter cabinet or adjust the return so the filter works without hurting the equipment.

Electric and Fuel Service Vary by Address

Bellvue does not have one utility answer. Public territory maps show both Xcel Energy and Poudre Valley REA electric service around Bellvue, and the valley and canyon roads fall largely in Poudre Valley REA territory.

Heating fuel varies too. Some homes have Xcel natural gas, and others heat with propane, electric or wood. That decides the rebates:

  • Poudre Valley REA members: $500 for an air-source heat pump of 1.5 tons or less, $1,500 above that, capped at 50 percent of equipment cost, plus a $500 bonus for a dual-fuel heat pump paired with propane or gas.
  • Xcel customers: effective October 1, 2026, a home heated with Xcel natural gas can earn $600 per cooling ton for a qualifying ducted heat pump, or $1,500 per heating ton for a cold-climate model. Electric-heated homes get the standard $300 or $750.
  • Everyone: the Colorado Heat Pump Tax Credit applies as a discount on a qualifying 2026 install.

We check the name on your electric bill and the fuel at the meter or tank before we size anything.

Permits and Licensing in Bellvue

Bellvue is unincorporated, so Larimer County Building issues the permits. The County requires a building permit to add or replace an air conditioner or heating system, and a separate permit for propane tank and gas line work.

The County also requires a mechanical contractor license. We at Homegrown Heating and Air Conditioning are licensed and insured throughout Northern Colorado and pull the permit on every job that needs one.

Sizing Equipment at 5,100 Feet

At about 5,130 feet, the air is noticeably less dense than the sea-level conditions equipment is rated at. Gas and propane appliances need their input adjusted for altitude per the manufacturer’s high-altitude instructions, and fans move fewer pounds of air per minute.

Larimer County’s design table puts the ground snow load around 57 pounds per square foot at Bellvue’s elevation. That matters for where we set an outdoor unit, how high the stand goes and how we protect the refrigerant lines from drifting snow and ice slide off a roof.

What a Bellvue Service Visit Includes

  • A measured diagnostic with written readings
  • Static pressure and filter checks on every forced-air system
  • An upfront price before any work starts
  • A combustion and safety check after any work on a gas or propane appliance
  • A plain answer on repair versus replacement

Two Foothills Calls

Specialty equipment needs the same honest diagnosis as a furnace. One homeowner’s dehumidifier for an indoor lap pool stopped working, which can quickly damage wood doors and window frames.

Patrick Meyer wrote: “He was able to replace the fuse and determined that the previous servicer had used the wrong size filter. We appreciated his quick response and honesty about the simple fixes required.”

A wrong-size filter is a small detail that causes big airflow problems, and it is the same detail we check on every smoke-season filter upgrade.

Another family came home from vacation to a cold house. Craig Kneeland wrote: “We called Pete and he was able to get our heater back up and running within a couple hours of us noticing the issue.”

No-heat calls get priority, and the repair still comes with a clear explanation. Read more customer reviews.

BELLVUE HVAC QUESTIONS WE GET

What filter should I use in Bellvue during wildfire smoke?

The EPA recommends MERV 13 or the highest rating your system can handle. We measure static pressure first, because a dense filter in a one-inch slot can choke an older blower.

Who provides electric service in Bellvue?

It depends on the address. Both Xcel Energy and Poudre Valley REA serve the Bellvue area, and the valley and canyon roads are largely Poudre Valley REA. Your electric bill tells us which rebate applies.

Do you work on propane furnaces in Bellvue?

Yes. We repair and replace propane furnaces and convert or set up dual-fuel heat pump systems with propane backup. Larimer County requires a separate permit for propane tank and gas line work.

Does Larimer County require a permit to replace a furnace in Bellvue?

Yes. Adding or replacing heating or cooling equipment in unincorporated Larimer County requires a building permit, and we pull it under our Larimer County license.

Can a ductless mini-split work in a Bellvue home without ducts?

Yes. Mini-splits are a common fit for older foothills homes and additions, and Poudre Valley REA pays a rebate on qualifying heat pump equipment.

Do you service homes up Rist Canyon?

Yes. Tell us the road and access details when you call so we can bring the right parts and plan the arrival time.
