Ductless heating and cooling for homes without ducts, additions and shops. We size, install, and service.
DUCTLESS MINI SPLIT SYSTEMS IN NORTHERN COLORADO
Ductless mini split systems in Northern Colorado solve two problems at once: they heat and cool rooms that ductwork never reached, and they do it without tearing open finished ceilings.
We at Homegrown Heating and Air Conditioning size, permit and install ductless mini splits across Northern Colorado, single head and multi head. Licensed and insured throughout Northern Colorado, with a load calculation behind every proposal.

GOOD TO KNOW
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can a ductless mini split be the only heat source in my Fort Collins home?
Only if it qualifies. Inside city limits an all-electric primary central heating system has to be a ground source or cold climate heat pump designed for the winter outdoor design temperature, and electric resistance strip heat is limited to emergency backup or to supplemental heat below 15 degrees F. A cold climate rated ductless system can meet that. A standard one generally cannot.
Is the rule different in Windsor, Greeley or unincorporated Weld County?
Yes. Unincorporated Weld County adopted a provision expressly barring the county from limiting gas or propane appliances in new buildings, which is the opposite posture from Fort Collins. Each jurisdiction on the Front Range adopts and amends its own codes, so we confirm the address before we specify equipment.
Do I need a permit for a mini split in Fort Collins?
Yes. Mini splits are named on the City of Fort Collins mechanical permit list, at $65 per heating appliance. Where the mini split is intended as primary heat, the city also requires Manual J, D and S calculations submitted with the application.
Will a ductless system heat a Colorado garage or shop in January?
It can, if it is sized against the real load. Larimer County’s 99% heating design temperature is about 1 degree F, so an uninsulated or lightly insulated shop needs either more capacity or better envelope work before the equipment is selected. We run the numbers rather than quote by square foot.
Are mini splits a good fit for an older home with no ductwork?
They are one of the better options in the older parts of Fort Collins, where adding a duct system means opening finished plaster and losing closet space. If your home does have usable ducts, a ducted system is often the cheaper path, and our heat pump installation and repair page covers that comparison.
Can one mini split handle cooling too?
Yes. Every ductless heat pump we install cools as well as heats, on the same refrigerant circuit. If you are weighing ductless cooling against a central system, our air conditioning installation page lays out the ducted option, and our Fort Collins service page covers the areas we work in.
