GOOD TO KNOW
AC REPAIR FAQS
How do I know my AC needs repair instead of just a filter change?
Change the filter first, since it is cheap and fixes a surprising number of problems. If the air is still warm after a day, or the unit runs nonstop, trips the breaker, ices up, smells odd, or makes a new noise, that is a repair call.
What does your AC troubleshooting visit actually involve?
We start at the outdoor unit and check the coil, fins, and fan, then move inside to the filter, blower, and coil, and finish at the thermostat and wiring. We measure pressure and temperature to confirm the charge instead of guessing, then show you what we found and price the work first.
Can a refrigerant leak be repaired, or do I need a whole new unit?
Most leaks can be repaired. We find the spot, fix it, and recharge the system. The exception is a leak inside a coil on an older unit, where the part can cost nearly as much as an AC replacement. We tell you which one you are facing and let you decide.
How do I choose between AC repair and replacement?
Look at three things: the age of the system, the repair cost against a new unit, and how many times you have called for HVAC repair in the last two summers. One repair on an eight-year-old system is usually worth it. A third repair on a 16-year-old system usually is not. We give you both numbers, no pressure.
Why do air conditioners around here seem to fail early?
Most early failures we see trace back to a system that was sized wrong, a refrigerant leak that was topped off instead of repaired, or maintenance that was skipped. Dust, cottonwood fluff, and big temperature swings add to the strain.
How fast can I get an HVAC technician to my house?
Usually the same day, and often within hours. We answer at night and on weekends. Call us or send a request and tell us what the system is doing.
