Homegrown Heating & Air Conditioning Team

Family owned and licensed throughout Northern Colorado since 2023

Buying an air conditioner is not like buying an appliance off a shelf. A system that does not fit your house costs you money every month it runs. At Homegrown Heating and Air Conditioning, we have measured, sized, and installed cooling systems for Northern Colorado families since 2023.

Air Conditioner Installation Services We Provide in Northern Colorado

Free In-Home Estimate. We walk through the house and measure. No charge, no obligation, no number pulled from thin air. You receive a written quote showing what we are installing and why that size is needed.

New AC System Installation. This includes the outdoor unit, indoor coil, line set, electrical components, thermostat, and startup. We handle it all as one job, so there is nobody to point fingers at if something is off.

AC Replacement Northern Colorado Homeowners Can Plan For. Most replacements happen in a crisis. If your unit is limping, let us price it now so you can compare options and pick a date, rather than taking whatever is available in July.

Cooling System Installation for New Construction. We work with builders and homeowners on new homes and additions, sizing equipment and ducts together so the finished house is even room to room.

Heat Pump Installation. A heat pump cools in summer and heats in the shoulder seasons using electricity. It pairs well with a furnace here and is worth pricing if your AC and furnace are aging out together.

Ductless Mini-Split Installation. For finished basements, additions, and that one bedroom over the garage that is always hot, a mini-split cools the space without adding ductwork.

Permit, Inspection, and Warranty Registration. If a permit is needed, we will discuss the permitting and inspection process with you, pull a permit with your permission, and register any applicable warranties on your behalf.

Financing and Free Second Opinions. Financing is available. If another air conditioning contractor has already quoted you, we will review the quote for free and let you know if it is fair.

Fort Collins Will Not Let Us Guess What Size AC Your Home Needs

Fort Collins does not treat a new air conditioner as a simple swap. The city requires a permit and inspection. For permits filed on or after April 1, 2026, the work must meet the 2024 building codes adopted by the city plus local amendments. A key rule is that cooling equipment must be sized using a real calculation of your home’s load, not a rule of thumb based on square footage.

That rule exists for a reason. Two houses on the same street can be the same size and still need different systems. Window direction, attic insulation, ceiling height, and duct location all change the answer. We sit about 5,000 feet up in a dry, sunny corner of Colorado. Sun through glass drives the load here far more than humidity does.

Here is what guessing costs you. A unit that is too big cools the house fast, shuts off after ten minutes, and fires right back up. This on and off pattern is called short cycling. It wears parts out early, leaves some rooms cold while others stay warm, and uses more power than a smaller unit. A unit that is too small runs all afternoon and never catches up.

So we do the math before we quote. We measure room by room, run it through sizing software, and give you the result with the price. Then we pull the permit and meet the inspector. A system nobody checked is a system nobody stands behind.

What Homeowners Say After We Installed Their New AC

Handing a five-figure decision to a contractor you found online takes nerve. Installation day means strangers in your house for most of it. Lauren Candiracci had questions before and during the install. What she got back is worth noting.

“Peter and his team are amazing, they answered all of my questions before and during installation of our new AC system. They were timely, considerate, and just REALLY GENUINELY GOOD people which is hard to come by these days. I highly recommend using them for your AC and heating needs.”
– Lauren Candiracci, Google Review

Many Northern Colorado homes were finished with whatever equipment fit the builder’s budget, so a system was never sized for the house it went into. Steve S. expected a sales pitch instead of an answer. He did what most people do with a wall of perfect reviews: he did not believe them. His story shows how that skepticism changed.

“Honesty, integrity, and attention to detail. I’m usually skeptical when I see so many 5-star reviews, but Peter and Homegrown are legit! I needed to replace my contractor grade, undersized and inefficient, HVAC system. Peter spent a couple hours going through my house, room by room and vent by vent. He then used a software program to precisely configure the furnace and air conditioner for my home size and layout. The new system is so much quieter than the old one, and the airflow is much better!”
– Steve S., Google Review

Those two hours are the job. Quieter operation and better airflow are not upgrades we sold him; they are what a correctly sized system does. Every quote we write starts with that walk-through. Read Steve’s full Google review.

AC INSTALLATION FAQS

How do I know it is time to replace my AC instead of repairing it again?

Watch for a unit past 15 years, an AC repair bill that is a big slice of a new system, rooms that never even out, bills climbing with no change in habits, or a second breakdown in one summer. Any two together usually mean replacement is the cheaper road.

What happens during the free in-home estimate?

We walk the whole house, not just the mechanical room. We measure rooms, check windows and insulation, look at your ducts and returns, and ask how you actually live in the space. Then we run the numbers and come back with sizes, options, and a price.

Is a bigger air conditioner better?

No, and this is the most expensive myth in the trade. A unit that is too large cools quickly, shuts off, and restarts constantly, which wears it out early and increases operating costs. The right size runs longer and steadier: quieter, more even, cheaper.

Should I just replace it with the same size as the one in there now?

Only if the old one was correct, and often it was not. If the original was undersized or the house has been insulated, sealed, or added onto since, matching the old nameplate just repeats somebody else’s error. That is what the load calculation is for.

Why does sizing matter so much?

Because every house is different, and a system that is the wrong size costs you every time it runs. An oversized unit short cycles, wears out early and leaves some rooms colder than others. An undersized unit runs all afternoon and never catches up. That is true in every home, every time, which is why we measure room by room and run a load calculation before we quote.

How do I schedule an estimate?

Schedule service to find a time that works. We’ll come measure and leave you with a price. There is no charge and no obligation, whether or not you buy from us.
