Every Service We Cover in Longmont

We work on the whole system, not one appliance:

  • Heat pump installation and repair, including cold-climate and dual-fuel systems
  • Furnace repair, and furnace installation and replacement
  • AC repair and AC installation
  • Ductless mini-splits
  • Heating maintenance and tune-ups
  • Indoor air quality and filtration upgrades
  • Ductwork repair and sealing
  • Emergency HVAC repair, same day, seven days a week

Most Longmont projects start with one of these: heat pump installation and repair, furnace installation and AC installation.

Sizing Heat Pumps for HVAC Services in Longmont

Longmont’s design temperature is the number that decides whether a heat pump keeps up. The City’s adopted climatic and geographic design criteria table sets a winter heating design temperature of minus 2 degrees. Boulder, 15 miles southwest, uses 2 degrees above zero.

Four degrees sounds small. For a heat pump, it is not:

  • A heat pump’s output falls as the outdoor temperature drops, while the house needs more heat
  • The gap between what the house loses and what the heat pump delivers is widest at the design temperature
  • Whatever the heat pump cannot cover falls to backup heat, either electric strips or a gas furnace

So a heat pump sized by square footage, or matched to the old air conditioner’s tonnage, often comes up short in a Longmont cold snap. The higher-tier cold-climate rebate for Longmont Power and Communications customers reflects the same logic: it requires a certified cold-climate heat pump sized to the home’s full design heating load, with a changeover temperature below 5 degrees.

We run a room-by-room load calculation at minus 2 degrees, check the heat pump’s published capacity at low temperatures, and then decide whether it can carry the house alone or should pair with a gas furnace as a dual-fuel system.

Utilities and Rebates in Longmont

Longmont Power and Communications, created in 1912, provides electricity to most of the city. Edge and annexed addresses can be served by another utility, so we check the bill. Xcel Energy provides natural gas.

  • Longmont Power and Communications customers: rebates run through Efficiency Works. Effective October 1, 2026, a ducted Tier 1 heat pump earns $1,500 per unit and a ducted cold-climate Tier 2 heat pump earns $2,000 per unit. Installers must be listed Efficiency Works providers, and pre-approval is required above $2,500 in incentives.
  • Xcel Energy (your gas utility): Xcel heat pump rebates are open to its natural gas customers. Effective October 1, 2026, a gas-heated home can earn up to $600 per cooling ton for a qualifying ducted heat pump, or $1,500 per heating ton for a cold-climate model. Xcel excludes homes whose primary heat is electric from another provider, and we confirm the application path before quoting.
  • Colorado Heat Pump Tax Credit: applied as an invoice discount on a qualifying 2026 install.

Permits, Codes and Licensing in Longmont

City of Longmont Building Services requires a permit for any change to electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing systems, including air conditioners and water heaters. As of July 1, 2026, the City enforces the 2024 International Codes with the Metro Cohort Model Code as its energy code.

Homes along St. Vrain and Left Hand creeks also deal with floodplain maps that changed in 2024. Work in a mapped floodplain may trigger a Floodplain Development Permit review, so we check the address before planning a basement equipment change.

Longmont requires a City contractor license for contracting work. Ask any contractor for theirs. We hold City of Longmont license M01008147 and confirm the permit path for your address before scheduling permitted work. Outside city limits in unincorporated Boulder County, we hold Boulder County license CON-25-0042.

What a Longmont Service Visit Includes

  • A measured diagnostic with written readings
  • A load calculation at the City design temperature before any heat pump quote
  • An upfront price before any work starts
  • A combustion and safety check after gas appliance work
  • Free second opinions on another company’s diagnosis

Two Calls That Show the Approach

A second diagnosis is worth calling for when the first one did not find anything. One business owner called after another company could not identify a furnace problem.

Ixchel Levendosky wrote that our technician “was absolutely thorough, figured out what was wrong right away (another company I had come look at the issue had not been able to diagnose the problem) and did extensive cleaning of the equipment to get things running properly.”

We also tell people plainly when an old furnace is not worth a big repair.

Routine maintenance gets the same attention. Beth Phillips, a Realtor who tried us at her own home for a furnace and AC tune-up, wrote: “The technician was thorough, took their time, and explained everything clearly along the way.” Read more customer reviews.

LONGMONT HVAC QUESTIONS WE GET

What winter temperature should a Longmont heat pump be sized for?

The City uses a winter heating design temperature of minus 2 degrees. A heat pump that serves as the main heat has to be checked against that number, not just the home’s square footage.

Who provides electricity in Longmont?

Longmont Power and Communications, the city-owned utility, serves most of Longmont. Some edge and annexed addresses are served by another utility, and Xcel Energy provides natural gas.

What heat pump rebates do Longmont Power and Communications customers get?

Through Efficiency Works, a ducted Tier 1 heat pump earns $1,500 and a cold-climate Tier 2 heat pump earns $2,000, effective October 1, 2026, when installed by a listed provider.

Do I need a permit to replace a furnace or AC in Longmont?

Yes. The City requires a permit for any change to gas, mechanical or electrical systems, including air conditioners.

Does a floodplain affect HVAC work in Longmont?

It can. Homes along St. Vrain and Left Hand creeks may fall under the 2024 floodplain maps, and work in a mapped floodplain may need a Floodplain Development Permit review.

Do you give second opinions in Longmont?

Yes, free. We measure the system, show you the readings and tell you whether the first diagnosis holds up.
